Project Methodology

The basic methodology of the RISING project is to analyse current transport and logistics processes, and define internal and external requirements for their future implementation. Further, RIS services will be specified, and developed and adapted to the customers’ needs – e.g. the transport and logistics sector. Finally, new RIS services will be demonstrated in the framework of the RISING scenarios/demonstration cases.

Workpackages

The RISING work plan follows the methodology outlined above. The interdependency of the work packages is presented below.

WP0 - Management

This work pacvkage deals with the overall administrative and technical management of the RISING project. The project will be managed according to the rules and regulations set by the European Commission, e.g. on reporting, cost management, quality management and quality assurance etc.

WP1 - Requirements Analysis

WP1 deals with project-related terminologies and definitions which will be being elaborated in order to obtain a common understanding of the involved topics among the partners. It focuses on the identification of processes, of internal and external requirements, of problems to be solved, challenges to be set, validation criteria as well as existing technological solutions.

WP2 - Development Event Management

The core objective here is an optimal interface between existing transport management systems and the Event Management component. This work package aims at facilitating the integration of events into existing operational transport systems. To this end specifications for the components of an Integrated Solutions/Event Management will be elaborated.

WP3 - Development Voyage Planning

Its core functionality is to plan and organise IWT operations. The development of software on the basis of Inland ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) enables an inland waterway operator and/or a freight forwarder to determine the optimum combination of size of vessel and route as well as the calculation of a realistic Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA), time windows.

WP4 - Development RIS-TLS

This work package deals with the identification of new River Information Services based on already existing RIS (e.g. Vessel Tracking and Tracing) for transport and logistics operations. The overall objective is to describe those services which provide direct/indirect benefits for transport and logistics processes. These RIS transport and logistics services will be designed, specified, integrated, tested and validated during the project life-time.

WP5 - Demonstration

deals with the detailed definition, planning and management of the demonstration cases. These demonstration cases will be conducted along the three focussed geographical areas of the project (Rhine/Scheldt, Danube, Elbe/Weser).

WP6 - Evaluation & Validation

This work package deals with the evaluation of the RIS demonstrator cases and the validation of a business concept and an implementation plan for RIS transport and logistics services.

WP7 - Dissemination

Its goal is to disseminate contents, progress and results as well as to ensure the involvement of all stakeholders during the development, testing and evaluation phases. The RISING outputs will be validated via dissemination events such as regional Industry Forums link to 1.3.2 and Advisory Committees link to 1.3.3.

WP8 - Expoitation

This process comprises the elaboration and implementation of a business concept in accordance with current market needs and in anticipation of future developments in the transport and logistics sector.
